Editorial Charter

Purpose

Version: 1.0

Status: Active

Effective: July 2026

Review Cycle: Annual

The Editorial Charter defines the principles governing all content published in the Practice Knowledge System (PKS). It ensures that every page is evidence-based, transparent, practical, and regularly updated.

The Practice Knowledge System (PKS) exists to translate the best available scientific evidence into practical knowledge that supports better health.

Our mission is to bridge the gap between research and real-world practice by producing evidence-informed, transparent, and practical educational resources for clinicians, students, patients, caregivers, researchers, and the public.

PKS is an educational resource and is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Every page published on this platform is guided by the following principles.

Scientific evidence forms the foundation of every recommendation.

Where possible, priority is given to:

  1. Clinical practice guidelines
  2. Systematic reviews
  3. Meta-analyses
  4. Randomized controlled trials
  5. High-quality observational studies

When evidence is limited or uncertain, this is stated clearly.

Knowledge should be useful.

Our objective is not merely to summarise research but to explain how evidence may be translated into everyday clinical and lifestyle practice.

Scientific uncertainty is an essential part of healthcare.

Where evidence is conflicting, evolving, or insufficient, this is openly acknowledged.

Readers should always understand the level of confidence behind recommendations.

PKS does not promote products, commercial services, or unsupported health claims.

Recommendations are based on available scientific evidence rather than opinion or marketing.

Medical knowledge evolves continuously.

Pages are reviewed and updated periodically as new evidence becomes available.

Recommendations are presented with an indication of the strength of supporting evidence whenever appropriate.

Confidence Interpretation
🟢 High Supported by multiple high-quality guidelines or systematic reviews.
🟡 Moderate Supported by good evidence with some limitations.
🟠 Limited Evidence is emerging or inconsistent.
🔴 Insufficient Current evidence is inadequate for firm conclusions.

Each resource follows a structured editorial process:

  1. Literature review
  2. Evidence appraisal
  3. Draft preparation
  4. Medical review
  5. Editorial review
  6. Publication
  7. Periodic update
